SYNOPSIS

(Age Rating – 14 years)

Ferramentas da Casa Quebrada is an adaptation of the short story “Kótin, the Provider, and Platonida” by Nikolai Leskov, performed by the group Fora do sériO.

The story addresses three strong and incredibly contemporary themes: masculinity intertwined with femininity through the nurturing man, violence against women, and social hypocrisy.

ABOUT THE PLAY AND DIRECTION

The cast and crew of this production are composed of renowned artists. Directed by Jonas Golfeto, the play features his photographic perspective on the scene. Jonas Golfeto is an artist: director, actor, playwright, and photographer. He was a member of the Companhia do Feijão and Les Commediens Tropicales, where he worked as a performance actor. Currently a documentarian, Golfeto develops hybrid projects within the languages of photography and cinema. He won the 2018 Stimulus Award with the documentary “Vigília no meio Fio.” He teaches courses in Contemporary Photography and mentors photographic projects. The musical direction by Maestro Sergio Alberto de Oliveira balances the voices and accordions. Costume designer Dino Bernardi’s perception integrates with the dialogue between past and present. Jair Correia’s set design supports the performances of actresses Isabela Graeff, Luara Pepita, Míriam Fontana, and Renata Martelli, who alternate as narrators and characters in an intriguing theatrical play combined with musical and physical expression.

ABOUT NIKOLAI LESKOV

Nikolai Semeonovich Leskov was born in 1831 in the village of Gorokhovo, Oryol province, on the banks of the Volga in Russia, into a family of clergy members. Leskov produced a vast body of work, but he was predominantly a short story writer and novelist. He is the author of two novels – “No Way Out” (1864) and “At Daggers Drawn” (1871) – as well as masterpieces in novella and short story forms such as “The Enchanted Wanderer” (1873), “The Left-Handed Craftsman from Tula and the Steel Flea” (1881), and “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District” (1865). He died in 1895 in Petersburg.

ABOUT FORA DO SÉRIO

The Group Fora do sériO was founded in 1988 in the city of Campinas and has been based in Ribeirão Preto since 1991. Upon arriving in the city, they established their first base in the historic Diederichsen Building, occupying its top floor for 10 years. Today, the group’s facilities are in a space further away from the city center, built to meet specific technical requirements for artistic creation, called Casa da Arte/Fora do sériO. The group’s work has been strengthened primarily by studying commedia dell’arte – a popular theatrical movement relying on the strength of the actor, the use of theatrical masks, improvisation, and interaction with the audience, along with live music and body expressiveness. These qualities remain present today. The group, which has benefitted from the contributions of numerous artists, dares to mix languages and perform in varied spaces, including stage, arena theater, streets, and alternative spaces, aiming for contemporary expression and communication. In its 30 years of existence, the group has earned the highest regard from both audiences and respected critics for the quality of their productions.
